A New South Wales family has been left shattered after their one‑year‑old dog Teddy died suddenly from complications linked to a popular flavoured nylon chew toy.

Teddy became critically ill after ingesting pieces of the toy, which caused a bowel obstruction that rapidly progressed to sepsis. His condition deteriorated within hours, and despite emergency treatment, vets were unable to save him.

The gentle pup was the children’s first family pet — a long‑awaited addition who spent his days cuddling, playing and racing around the backyard with his “big sister and brother”.

In the desperate attempt to give Teddy every chance of surviving, the family is now facing more than $18,000 in unexpected vet bills, all while trying to support their young children through the sudden loss.

A GoFundMe has been launched by Joanne Chew to help ease the financial strain on her brother and sister-in-law describing Teddy as a “beautiful boy” who meant the world to the family.

The family is now preparing to say goodbye to their much‑loved Teddy, thanking the community for any kindness shown during what they describe as an “unimaginably heartbreaking” time.
