A person has been found dead after a devastating blaze ripped through a home.

Flames took hold of the property on the corner of Phoenix Rd and Gerald St in Spearwood, in Perth’s south, about 6.30am on Monday.

Neighbours ran towards the danger trying to alert anyone who might have been inside.

“We just opened the curtains to flames,” neighbour Eddie Watkins said.

“That’s when I just woke up my parents and got my partner and kids to evacuate.”

Fire crews extinguished the blaze before finding an occupant was still inside.

Arson Squad officers say the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

“The person’s death is not being treated as suspicious,” WA Police said.

7NEWS understands the home had no power and a generator was being used for electricity.

Just last week a back shed at the home went up in flames in a fire sparked by lithium batteries.

Authorities say the fires are not connected.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
