Parents have revealed their shock after a replica gun was seized by police following reports of shots at a high school.

The seizure happened in 2025 but was only made public after a special investigation by 7NEWS.

“I was not (made aware),” one parent of a Balcatta Senior High School student in Perth told 7NEWS.

“My daughter is in Year 9 so she would have been here last year. That’s very, very terrible.”

Under Freedom of Information, 7NEWS uncovered a list of weapons seized from schools across WA in 2025.

The most shocking were replica handguns.

A BB gun that shot plastic pellets was so realistic it had Glock branding on the side.

At Harrisdale Senior High School, a homemade taser rigged together using an electric toothbrush was found, while another BB gun was discovered at Baldivis Secondary College.

But these are just the tip of the iceberg, with a flamethrower, a crossbow, knives, knuckledusters, an extendable baton and a gel blaster also seized.

“We know that last year 40 different prohibited weapons were seized in schools across WA,” opposition spokesman for education Liam Staltari said.

The shocking revelation comes just a day after it was revealed WA schoolchildren were subjected to more than 1300 lockdowns in 2025, mostly triggered by violent threats.

“This (state) government has lost control of violence and extreme bad behaviour in too many of our schools,” Staltari said.

WA’s education department said: “It is important to note that these are isolated occurrences which only involve a very small number of students. There is absolutely no excuse for students to bring a weapon onto school grounds.”
