ECOVACS has recently been named global number one in home robotics by Forbes, and it’s easy to see why.

Rather than being distracted by a lot of the gimmicky noise in the industry, ECOVACS has been laser focused on creating robots that make our lives easier.

I recently spoke to Dave Wu, the General Manager for ECOVACS ANZ.

Dave summed up the company’s mission: “We’ll always address to people’s needs. We’re the company that started from the requirement how to take care of the household chores. And also enable the people to free their hands more”.

Now, ECOVACS have a reputation for some of the best robotic vacuums on the market.

But here are three places in your home that you might not have thought you could automate with a robot.

GOAT A2000 Robotic Lawn Mower

Aussie backyards are a very dynamic, unpredictable landscape to throw a robot into.

We’re talking kids’ toys, trampolines, clotheslines, veggie patches... Not to mention slopes and drops and holes dug by our furry friends.

This chaos requires a robot that can navigate and manage any environment, and the GOAT mowers by ECOVACS are very impressive.

Depending on your yard there are a variety of models to suite different sizes and terrain but for my sloping Sydney backyard, I love the GOAT A2000 LiDAR PRO.

Along with the AI Vision cameras on the front, the A2000 LiDAR PRO features a 360 degree ‘Holoscope’ LiDAR that makes the navigation on this mower very good.

I have found the A2000 to be very easy to setup and use.

The one thing I will say is it’s worth taking the time to get your mapping done as thoroughly as you can.

My yard has a number of random obstacles like retaining walls and veggie patches and the Auto-Mapping didn’t quite pick these up on the first pass.

The cutting perfomance on this mower is awesome, dual blade discs spinning at 3000rpm along with an integrated line trimmer make this thing an absolute beast!

The height of your cut can be adjusted in the app and you can assign different lengths to different areas, I like to have my backyard a little longer than the front for the kids to play and it’s super easy to customise the cut on the fly.

If you love your lawn and love tech then a robotic lawn mower could be for you.

At IFA this year I got a sneak peek at the new T-Series GOAT range, and it is really impressive how capable these machines are getting.

The mower ECOVACS was showing off was able to climb a 40 degree slope which was wild and these robots are only going to get more and more capable.

W3 Winbot Window Cleaning Robot

You need a window robot. End of section.

Seriously though, the Winbot is crazy cool and leaves your windows crystal clean with minimal human intervention.

The Winbot has two parts, the wash station and the robot itself connected with a power cable.

The wash station cleans and moistens the mopping pads that are then loaded onto the robot. To clean you hold the robot against the glass, press the go button and grab yourself a cup of tea!

I recently did a big spring clean of our three bedroom house and found the best rhythm was to have one pad in the wash station while the other was on the robot, moving from room to room. Genuine game-changer.

Also side note, the cable is 5.5m long so if you have big windows the Winbot W3 is more than capable.

Ultramarine Pool Cleaners

While indoor cleaning has been the bread and butter for ECOVACS, a new segment they’ve recently dived into is pool cleaning with their Ultramarine line.

I was fortunate enough to chat with Jingyi Deng, one of the lead engineers that has been working on the Ultramarine project and she says that tackling the pool is a very complex problem to solve.

“With a robot vacuum to clean your home, it’s moving on a flat floor” she said. “The pool can be really complicated because you have the floor, walls, steps, slopes and even bowl or diamond shaped floors.”

The Ultramarine P1 can cover a whopping 600 square metres and can clean the floor, walls and right up to the water line.

With a three hour battery life it is very capable for the Aussie backyard. You can set scheduled cleaning, adjust suction power and whether you want floor, walls or both right in the app.

Coming soon as well is an all new model that featuresunderwater LiDAR for more accurate mapping of your pool and a solar powered buoy to allow you to communicate with and even control your pool cleaner from your phone!

A robot for everyone

I think the big thing that stood out to me from seeing ECOVACS at IFA this year is how they set themselves apart from other brands.

A lot of brands choose to have massive product ranges in as many categories as possible. This is not the ECOVACS strategy.

It’s clear to me through talking with them and exploring their range that they are laser-focussed on one thing — home robotics.

And to be honest it brings a certain level of comfort having their robots in my home as I know I’m getting the absolute best robot possible whether it be on the floor, the window or outside.
