The 2027 Porsche Cayenne Electric lineup is only just arriving at dealers across the country, and the German brand says the bulk of early customers are new to Porsche.

“It’s a mix of both, with the larger majority being new to Porsche,” said Alexis Truscott, PR and marketing director for Porsche Cars Australia when asked about the Cayenne Electric buyer profile.

“Customers are responding strongly to the combination of Porsche performance, everyday usability and the technology offered by the Cayenne Electric. We can’t share order volumes, but we can say that the early response and the first opportunity for customers to drive the new Cayenne Electric has been very well received.”

While the new-generation ‘E4’ Cayenne Electric is currently in the spotlight, the previous-generation E3 Cayenne range will continue to be sold alongside the new EV, even beyond 2030.

To the end of July 2026, the existing Cayenne SUV and Cayenne Coupe range had been showing strong sales growth in the Australian market, up 24.8 per cent and 34.7 per cent year to date, respectively.

First examples of the new-generation Cayenne Electric are arriving now, including the manic Cayenne Turbo Electric which puts out up to 850kW/1500Nm and delivers straight-line performance that betters even the 911 Turbo S supercar.

While base pricing for the Cayenne Electric kicks off some $20,000 higher than the most attainable combustion-powered Cayenne, it’s only around $3000 dearer than the base plug-in Cayenne E-Hybrid.

Further, the entry-level Cayenne Electric offers power and performance in line with the twin-turbo V8-powered Cayenne GTS, which costs tens of thousands more than the base EV.

“Our current strategy is clear: customers should have a choice. The Cayenne Electric sits alongside our combustion and E-Hybrid models, allowing customers to select the powertrain that best suits their needs,” Ms Truscott added.

“The introduction of vehicles such as Macan Electric and Cayenne Electric broadens our portfolio while remaining true to Porsche’s DNA. Regardless of powertrain, every Porsche must deliver the performance, usability and driving experience our customers expect.”

Unlike the E3 Cayenne, which rides on a version of the VW Group MLB evo platform shared with the likes of the Audi Q8, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus, the E4 Cayenne Electric is underpinned by the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) dedicated EV platform for high-end electric models from the Volkswagen Group – though it does have some commonality with the most recent evolution of the MLB evo architecture, which is now called Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).

The Cayenne Electric’s running gear is shared with the likes of the Audi A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron, as well as its Macan Electric stablemate and, soon, the Bentley Torcal – Bentley’s first-ever EV, due to be revealed later this week.
