A man approached the officers outside the home and shot a First Year Constable (FYCP) in the leg.
A Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) declaration was made shortly after as the male officer was rushed to Maryborough Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
He was then taken to Hervey Bay Hospital before being flown by helicopter to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for ongoing treatment.
The Queensland Police Union said he is now in a stable condition.
“He is receiving expert medical care and the QPS is taking responsibility for notifying his immediate family,” the union said.
Meanwhile, specialist police travelled to the scene and were seen in camouflage arming themselves with rifles as an exclusion zone was established around the home while officers were “attempting to engage” with the man.
But a search of the property at about 9.21pm found the 45-year-old man had died.

Police are expected to provide more information during a press conference at 10.30am.
