A South Australian man has been charged after allegedly using AI to generate child abuse material.

Specialist investigators from SAPOL and the AFP searched a property in Adelaide’s northern suburbs on Wednesday as part of an ongoing crackdown on online child exploitation.

While searching the home, officers seized a number of electronic devices where they allegedly found AI‑generated child abuse content.

Poliec allege a 26‑year‑old man was producing the material at the home.

He was charged with possessing child exploitation material and producing child exploitation material and was granted bail to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police say more devices have been taken for forensic analysis as investigators work to determine the full extent of the alleged offending.

Detective Superintendent Damien Epps said specialist teams were increasingly confronting AI‑generated child abuse content — and warned about police’s ability to track it down.

“This arrest follows an investigation by dedicated specialist detectives who are committed to protecting children from those who seek to exploit and abuse children online,” he said.

“The production, possession and distribution of AI-generated child abuse material is a heinous offence and our specialist detectives, with the assistance of SAPOL’s Digital Evidence Section, have the tools and expertise to peruse, investigate and prosecute anyone attempting to produce AI Generated child exploitation material within South Australia.”

Police are urging anyone with information about AI‑generated child abuse material or online child exploitation to contact authorities immediately.
