The Zeekr 7X is set to get a range boost in its native market later this year, though it’s unclear when this update will be introduced in Australia.

A new filing published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals the 2027 Zeekr 7X will continue with a 370kW electric motor, but gain a new 85kWh ‘Golden Brick’ battery pack.

The updated 7X is due in China during the fourth quarter (October to December) of 2026, and the MIIT filing reveals the vehicle hasn’t received any exterior changes.

The entry-level 7X sold in Australia uses a 75kWh battery and a 310kW electric motor, driving the rear wheels – with up to 480km of range (WLTP) – though the model is already one cycle behind China.

A 100kWh battery is also available with up to 615km of WLTP range, with a dual-motor variant producing up to 475kW and 710Nm.

Nothing has been confirmed by Zeekr Australia at this stage, however it’s possible the company – owned by car giant Geely, which also runs Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus – could decide to skip a cycle when the electric SUV is eventually updated here.

It’s also not clear at this stage whether the variant listed in the Chinese government filings will replace the base model, or if it will slot into the current lineup.

Zeekr claims the latest battery technology can last up to one million kilometres, and as many as 3500 charging cycles, though the driving range and charge rate for the 85kWh battery have yet to be published.

While the existing 100kWh battery uses nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemistry, the new 85kWh ‘Golden Brick’ – and the current 75kWh battery pack – both use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

Acting like a ‘black box’, an Event Data Recorder (EDR) will also be integrated into the new model.

The Chinese-market 7X moved to a 900V system for the larger of its two batteries at essentially the same time the older 800V-equipped range was being launched here, with the fastest-charging 7X variant offering a DC charge rate of 620kW. In contrast, Australian-market 7Xs can only be charged at between 420kW and 450kW, depending on the variant.
