The grandson of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin has made a stunning exit from the Commonwealth Games, headbutting his English boxing opponent before ranting about the disqualification decision.

The aftermath was as wild as the ugly 90-plus kg quarter-final, which featured two warnings against Aziz Abdul before the referee ended the bout against Damar Thomas with more than a minute left in the third round.

Abdul raged against his opponent afterwards, accused the judges of bias and implied racism in an expletive-laden interview.

He had ensured plenty of attention for his bout on Thursday morning (AEST), declaring he wanted to be the new ‘King of Scotland’ in a nod to his notorious late grandfather.

“All I can say about this is the decision is not right. I’m not happy about the decision,” the 25-year-old Ugandan said.

“Next time I will get him ... anywhere, in the future, I will get him.”

Abdul was then asked again what he thought about his disqualification.

“Yes, of course it’s unfair. When you watch the previous fights of England, their boxers, they get a lot of fouls,” he said.

“They play a lot of ‘bull****’, but they cannot judge them wrong ... I’m a black African, OK?

“I don’t know why the officials are scared about this fight. Why couldn’t they let the fight continue? What was wrong in the fight?”

Abdul added the headbutt was unintentional and he felt there was only one way he could win.

“He was the winner before — I just knew if I wouldn’t get a knockout I could not win that fight,” he said.

Asked why, he replied: “I don’t know, because he’s at home — he’s at f****** home, man. Yeah. I wish him good luck for his next fight.”

The TV commentator had forecast Abdul’s need for a knockout just moments before the headbutts that ended the fight.

“Oh dear me, he’s pushed off his feet and launched beneath Damar Thomas’s bearded chin with his head,” the caller said.

“That’s a blatant headbutt in the face of the referee. That’s the third warning and Aziz Abdul has been disqualified.

“A warning in each of the three rounds, and that in the third and final round when he got inside, a blatant headbutt, he squatted down and sprung off his toes.

“Our first disqualification of Glasgow 2026 and that’s why, blatant disregard for the rules. That’s why he was warned ... that’s simply not allowed in the sport of boxing.

“He said he wants to be known worldwide does the man nicknamed ‘Ringo’. Calls his right hand his ‘Ringo punch’ but we saw very little evidence of it over the course of the contest because he was controlled and neutralised principally by the southpaw right jab and footwork of Damar Thomas.”

Abdul’s grandfather was the despot Amin, who seized power in 1971 then killed an estimated half-a-million people while ordering the expulsion of Uganda’s entire Asian population.

Amin, the eccentric self-styled “King of Scotland”, fathered an estimated 60 children while harbouring a fascination with the country that is currently hosting the Commonwealth Games.

Abdul never met his grandfather, who died in 2003.

“I didn’t want to end like that, but I’ve got to go on Friday again and that’s the main thing. Everything else is out of my control,” Thomas said.

“I didn’t expect anything else.”

It was the last bout of day six, when Australia secured two more medals.

Lekeisha Pergoliti had a contentious 3-2 win over Nigerian Blessing Orakwe in their 70kg quarter-final. Orakwe refused to shake the Australian’s hand when the result was announced.

But Paul Trainor was hugging Welsh opponent Daniel Pitt amid much mutual respect. Trainor beat Pitt 4-1 in their 80kg bout.

Of the eight Australians fighting in Glasgow — all first-timers at the Commonwealth Games — six of them are now in the semi-finals and guaranteed of medals.
