Two people have been taken to hospital after a staff member was allegedly assaulted at a nursing home in Adelaide’s northwest.

Emergency services were called to St Hilarion Residential Care and Nursing Home in Seaton about 9.40am on Friday following reports of an assault.

Police allege a male volunteer aged in his 80s assaulted a female staff member aged in her 60s.

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was also taken to hospital with what police described as “self-inflicted injuries”, which were not considered life-threatening.

No residents were injured or threatened during the incident, police said.

A wing of the nursing home was evacuated as emergency services descended on the facility, The Advertiser reported.

A woman visiting her mother said the scene was chaotic.

“There was a lot of police cars and a lot of ambulance and just a lot of commotion,” she told the masthead. 

“It’s sad something like that has happened in a place like this, with not a lot of communication, the residents would be feeling pretty frightened. 

“You never expect these things to happen in a nursing home.”

No charges have been laid and police investigations are continuing.
