And it looks like OPPO has found a way to keep both my friend and me happy.

Two phones, two very different buyers

That’s basically the thinking behind OPPO’s new Reno16 series. Instead of one phone trying to be everything, there are two.

There’s the Reno16 Pro ($1,599), aimed squarely at the camera obsessed like me.

And there’s the Reno16 F ($999), the more affordable option for people who care less about megapixels and more about just being juiced up for a long time.

They share a family resemblance, but they’re built for different people.

So the question really is, which one are you?

This is the one for me. It’s got a massive 200MP main camera, plus 50MP ultra-wide and 50MP telephoto lenses.

So whether you’re shooting a big landscape like the Sunshine Coast Hinterland where I live, or zooming in on your fur baby, the photos come out sharp.

Here’s something people forget too.

A big battery is great, but how quickly it fills back up matters just as much. Nobody wants to be stuck by the wall for an hour.

That’s where this phone shines. A quick top-up before you head out and you’re good to go, thanks to fast 80W SUPERVOOC charging.

For the content obsessed among us, there are AI editing tools built right in.

AI Remix Collage takes a jumble of your photos and videos and automatically sorts and arranges them into a finished collage, so you don’t have to piece it together yourself.

And Popout Collage 2.0 makes your subject, a person, a pet, whatever, burst out of the frame with a single tap. It’s the kind of stuff that used to need a separate app, now done in the gallery in a couple of taps.

One thing to consider: there’s no microSD slot, so the 512GB of storage is all you get. That’s plenty for most people, but once it’s full, it’s full.

For everyone else, there’s the F. And here’s the funny part.

The cheaper phone actually has the bigger battery.

At 6500mAh it edges out the Pro’s 6000mAh, so it lasts the longest of the two and easily gets you through a big day and into the next one.

The trade-off is it charges a bit slower, topping up at 45W (versus the Pro’s 80W). So it’s one for the overnight charge crowd rather than the quick top-up types.

It’s also got a 50MP ultra-wide selfie camera.

The ultra-wide part matters more than it sounds. It means a 100 degree field of view, so you can cram the whole group into a selfie without that one mate having to stretch their arm out and still leave someone cropped off the edge.

And it’s great value. There’s a microSD slot, so unlike the Pro you can pop in a card and top up your storage down the track.

One thing to consider: the rear ultra-wide camera is only 8MP. Fine for everyday snaps, but a noticeable step down if photography is your thing.

And both? They’ve got you covered

Whatever you’re after, both phones come with the same handy IP69K dust and water resistance.

So a splash, a spill or getting stuck in the rain isn’t the end of the world.
