A driver has been copped a whopping fine after being caught breaking multiple laws on a Queensland beach.

Police spotted a green Landrover Defender being driven at 20km/h over the speed limit at Teewah Beach, north of Noosa, about 2.15pm on Saturday.

When officers pulled over the speeding car, they were met with the unexpected sight of a 10-year-old boy sitting on the driver’s lap.

“The first reason I pulled you over is because we detected your speed at 61km/h. You’re in a 40km/h zone at the moment,” an officer can be heard saying in bodycam vision.

“And now we have to talk about this,” he said, gesturing to the child.

The officer can be heard asking the boy his age, “I’m 10” the boy replied.

“Well, obviously you can’t do that,” the officer said.

“Listen, I’m not going to give you the lecture, but this is a road. It’s considered the same as the Bruce Highway; all road rules apply.”

The 43-year-old Mermaid Beach man was issued a traffic infringement notice (TIN) for driving a vehicle with a young child in the same seat.

He was also issued a TIN for speeding more than 20km/h over the limit and using an unregistered car.

He was fined $1295 and given four demerit points.

Police said a total of 18 TINs were issued at Teewah Beach on Saturday as part of continued operations in the area.

Of the 18 notices, 12 were for speeding.

“Officers from the Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol and the Northern Patrol Group undertake routine patrols focused on enforcement and education, to ensure everyone makes it safely to their destination,” police said.
