A man and his dog were allegedly attacked in a popular Sydney pub on Sunday.

The 43-year-old pet owner and his French bulldog were allegedly set upon by an unknown man while walking through The Sackville Hotel on Darling St, Rozelle, about 7pm.

The alleged offender “kicked his dog and assaulted him with a steak knife”, NSW Police said.

He then allegedly fled the pub and was tracked down six hours later.

Paramedics treated the 43-year-old victim for lacerations to his head and arm. He was hospitalised in a stable condition.

Police launched an investigation into the alleged attack and arrested a 53-year-old man at a home on Hargraves Ave in Punchbowl at 1am on Monday.

The 53-year-old man was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, affray, and common assault.

He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Monday.
