In a statement on Hilton’s website on Monday, his family confirmed that he had checked in as an inpatient in “an important next step” of his recovery and was expected to stay there for several weeks.

As he recovers, Hilton’s children Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, eight, are being looked after by their grandmother, Teresita Lavandeira.

“His three children remain together, safe, and doing well in the care of their grandmother, who has stepped in to care for them full-time during this unexpected chapter,” the statement said.

“Our family’s priority continues to be giving them as much stability, routine, and ‘normalcy’ as possible while their dad focuses on his recovery. We are incredibly grateful for everything their grandmother is doing for them.

“Three children came frighteningly close to losing their father forever. There is nothing funny or entertaining about that.”

As Hilton his treated as an inpatient, he does not have any access to his phone or laptop.

Instead, it’s up to his friends and family to contact him, so that “he can focus fully on getting better”.
