Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos has paid tribute to young fan Logan after his record-breaking night at the Brownlow Medal.

Daicos won his first Brownlow with 47 votes to break the previous all-time record of 45.

He also set a new record of 13 three-vote games, including a stretch of six in a row during his dominant performance.

The gun midfielder finished 11 votes clear of Bailey Smith (36), with Marcus Bontempelli (34) a further two votes behind.

After accepting the award on stage, Daicos paid tribute to eight-year-old cancer patient Logan.

The pair have formed a strong bond since meeting through the Make A Wish Foundation.

“I think it’s chaos in Melbourne, that’s also what makes it so special being in the Melbourne bubble and playing for a big club,” he said.

“You do have days when you want to get in and out of the supermarket and you’re a little bit tired, but on the flipside, I think the platform we have is amazing and I don’t take that for granted.

“I have a youngster, Logan, who is staying awake at the moment. He has cancer. And I worked closely with him this year.

“I think that shows the platform we can have and impacting people like that, I think we send videos back and forth throughout the week.

“We’re only able to do that and put a smile on his face because we’re playing footy.

“Then at the same time, I think he’s probably taught me more than I taught him.”

In an amazing gesture, Daicos made sure his first autograph as a Brownlow medallist was for Logan.

Daicos then signed the front page of the Herald Sun, which featured nearly a full-page image of the Collingwood champion ahead of his inevitable Brownlow triumph.

“You and I chatted earlier. We said if you win, your first signature for the Brownlow will be for Logan,” Hamish McLachlan said on stage.

“On the front page, it says ‘’inevitable’. This is coming to you Logan, will make sure it happens.”

The silos on Punt Rd also lit up with a fresh Daicos image.

Daicos also paid tribute to his cousin and best mate AJ.

“He’s one of my best mates, my cousin, on mum’s side. We lost our auntie, his mum,” Daicos explained.

“We’re the same age. We grew up together, did everything together.

“More like a brother to be honest, we do everything together and I find honestly I am trying to look out for him and make sure he is going well.

“He’s one of my biggest fans.”

After his on-stage interview with McLachlan, Daicos took the mic for his acceptance speech when he thanked his partner Arlette, brother Nick and family among many others.

“I want to start with my partner Arlette. So grateful to have you in my corner,” he began.

“Touched on it before, our bond is, we’re so close and I think you offer me such great perspective with what you do with work every single day and also uni studies and you make me realise what really matters in the world.

“I have a tough day and pretty quickly come home and I’m levelled out, because what you do, you have such a great impact. So lucky to have you, so thank you.

“And then my family, my mum and dad. They are here tonight. I can’t wait to share this night with you. I’m not here without you. I’m so grateful for all your support.

“I feel like playing at Collingwood and being a father-son has been extra spotlight on me at times.

“I know it’s not easy with scrutiny ... and we don’t deal too well in the spotlight. I’m so grateful for everything you guys have done for me.

“My sister and Josh, I put you together. Josh, I couldn’t have asked for a better role model, you’re my brother, one of my best mates. I love coming into work every day and getting better with you, mate.

“Then also to Fly and the Collingwood Football Club for picking me up, it’s been a hell of a ride, a really exciting five years.

“Truly, I am lost for words to be up here. It’s a massive honour and I’m so grateful.”
