Natalie Portman has shared a new photograph of her growing baby bump as she prepares to welcome her third child.

The Oscar winner posted the image from her Paris home on Wednesday, cradling her bare belly beneath an oversized blue shirt.

“Counting the days until we meet you,” she captioned the photograph.

Portman is expecting her first child with French music producer Tanguy Destable, 46. She already has son Aleph, 15, and daughter Amalia, 9, with former husband Benjamin Millepied.

The actress first confirmed the pregnancy in April, describing the experience as both a joy and a privilege.

“Tanguy and I are very excited,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.

“I’m just very grateful. I know it’s such a privilege and a miracle.”

Portman, whose father is a fertility doctor, has spoken openly about her awareness that pregnancy does not come easily for everyone, especially into their 40s.

Her pregnancy comes amid a remarkable run of prominent women becoming mothers well into their 40s.

Perth-born actress Melissa George quietly welcomed her fourth son at age 49 earlier this month, revealing the news through photographs from a road trip across Provence and the French Riviera.

George, who lives in France, has not disclosed the identity of her youngest child’s father or details about how she conceived. She previously welcomed her third son, Lyor, at 47.

Anne Hathaway also announced in June that she was expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman at 43.

“Baby, I’m yours,” she captioned a video in which she moved her arms to reveal her growing bump.

Hathaway has previously acknowledged experiencing fertility difficulties, writing during her second pregnancy: “For everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies.”

The three women have not publicly shared whether fertility treatment played a role in their pregnancies.

While fertility naturally declines with age and pregnancies after 40 carry an increased risk of some complications, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) says most mothers experience normal pregnancies and have healthy babies regardless of age.

Waiting to conceive is a growing trend in Australia, with AIHW revealing the average maternal age has risen for both first-time mothers (from 28.3 years in 2010 to 29.9 in 2023) and those who have given birth previously (from 31.3 years in 2010 to 32.3 in 2023).
