Reality TV series Married at First Sight Australia has come under police investigation.
NSW Police confirmed it had launched an investigation into the dating show in August following claims of “inappropriate” conduct.
“On Monday August 24, 2026, officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command commenced an investigation following a report of inappropriate content being shared,” NSW Police told 7NEWS.com.au.

“Following inquiries, the matter will be referred to WA Police Force.”
The show, known widely as MAFS, features single people “marrying” strangers they meet for the first time on their wedding day, although the marriages are not legally binding.

TV Blackbox’s Rob McKnight claims a male participant is the one who lodged the formal complaint.
“It’s understood he was allegedly ambushed by producers, who shared private information about him with his bride,” McKnight alleges.
The show is produced by Endemol Shine Australia and broadcast by Channel 9.

“We are aware of a police investigation involving Endemol Shine Australia and all enquiries should be directed to them,” a Nine spokesperson said.
7NEWS.com.au has contacted Endemol Shine Australia for comment.
This new investigation comes after a BBC News report earlier this year into MAFS Australia revealed cast members said they had not been told their partners had previous drug and violence convictions.
Nine former cast members alleged several male participants were allowed on the show despite having drug and violence convictions.
According to the investigation, one former participant discovered their match had a previous drug conviction, while another found out their partner had been convicted of affray, a public order offence involving violence or threats.
The reality TV series came under fire earlier this year when a BBC News investigation claimed cast members of the Australian series said they had not been told of their partner’s previous convictions. Credit: MAFS UKIn a joint statement for Nine and Endemol Shine Australia, a spokesperson at the time said they “take their obligations in respect of the health, wellbeing and safety of participants extremely seriously”.
“We have strong protocols in place to ensure participant safety and wellbeing. There is a structured, multi-stage checking process that every participant must complete and clear.
“This includes police and criminal history checks in each declared country of residence, independent clinical psychological assessment, medical screening, disclosure supported by a statutory declaration, and legal and digital due diligence.
“The support for participants is continually evolving and each season we re-assess this framework.”
Those revelations led to a warning from Australia’s media watchdog, which called them “serious and disturbing”.
The British version of Married At First Sight, known as MAFS UK, came under fire in May when BBC Panorama reported rape allegations from two female cast members, while a third described an allegation of a non-consensual sex act.
They all claimed the show did not do enough to protect them, according to the report. The show has now been pulled off air.
Channel 4, which airs the show in the UK, said in April it was made aware of “serious allegations” involving a small number of former MAFS participants.
The allegations were denied by the past contestants.
