A young woman who was just a year out of high school has been identified as the critically injured victim of a shooting at a fight night.

Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau, 19, was one of four people shot when bullets tore through a crowd at Fitzy’s in Loganholme about 8.15pm on Saturday.

Schuster-Togiatau, from Jimboomba, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane with gunshot wounds to her head and neck. As of Monday afternoon, she remained in a critical and unstable condition.

Police said she was an innocent bystander.

New vision has captured the chaos that unfolded as people scrambled for safety, with police and patrons seen helping the injured scattered across the floor.

Australian National Boxing Federation Queensland representative Phil Austin said the shooting unfolded in seconds.

“Before I could really sort of go, ‘oh crap’, it was done. The shots were all in very quick succession,” he said.

He described the immediate aftermath as “a second or two of absolute disbelief”.

More than 100 people, including families with young children, were attending the live boxing event when the shooting occurred.

Police allege a car pulled into a drop-off zone during an intermission and two men wearing balaclavas and gloves opened fire from the front passenger window, hitting four people.

Schuster-Togiatau was left in a critical condition, with Chief Superintendent Mel Adams saying the teen’s family was devastated.

“Her family is distraught,” she said. “The families of the other victims are distraught.”

Police investigate possible criminal links

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including possible links to outlaw motorcycle gangs or organised crime groups.

CCTV footage shows the first alleged getaway car travelling across Logan and circling the pub before the shooting.

The vehicle was later found torched.

“There were elements of pre-planning that lead us to say it was not random,” Adams said.

The three men — aged 38, 37 and 27 — suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen. The 38-year-old was also shot in the arm.

All three remain in serious condition but are improving, Adams said.

The shooting has raised fears of possible retaliation, but police say they have no intelligence to suggest another attack is imminent.

Boxing reputation under scrutiny

Former world champion Jeff Horn said the shooting could leave people fearful of attending boxing events.

“It does damage a bit of the reputation of boxing at the moment,” he said. “People are going to be scared.”

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has pushed back against suggestions the state’s gun laws are to blame for the shooting.

“Bad people shouldn’t have access to five guns — they should have access to zero guns. Good people should be able to have weapons,” Crisafulli said.

He also argued a gun buyback scheme would not reduce gun violence.

Opposition Leader Steven Miles, however, said Queensland’s approach to firearms had made the state more attractive to people seeking dangerous weapons.

“Being the outlier, we are now a magnet for people who want to have more dangerous weapons,” Miles said.

Police make plea for information

Adams called on the community to “come together and step up”, saying police needed the public’s help to identify those responsible.

“There will be people out there who know who did this or suspect who did this,” she said.

Police are urging anyone with information or footage of the shooting or the subsequent car fires to come forward.
