Italy’s State Police has added a new Lamborghini Temerario to its fleet, with the high-performance hybrid supercar set to be used for emergency organ and medical supply transport.

Unveiled at Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Temerario Polizia continues a partnership between the Italian automaker and police force that dates back more than 20 years.

The latest addition joins previous Lamborghini police cars including the Gallardo, Gallardo LP 560-4, Huracán and Urus Performante.

According to Lamborghini, six vehicles have joined the Italian State Police fleet over the past two decades, completing more than 200 organ transport missions across Italy.

The usefulness of a police supercar was highlighted in 2020, when a Lamborghini Huracán transported a kidney almost 500km from Padua to Rome in just over two hours, averaging 233km/h. The same journey would normally take over five hours.

That same Huracán has also proved a reliable workhorse, clocking up more than 360,000km in police service on its original engine and gearbox.

The police's fleet of Lamborghinis has also participated in more than 1500 road safety education events.

The Temerario, priced from $613,885 plus on-roads in Australia, is the latest and most powerful Lamborghini to take on police duties, with its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine working with three electric motors to produce a combined 677kW.

Lamborghini hasn't disclosed whether the police car retains the same performance specifications as the standard Temerario, which can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 343km/h.

The combination of a combustion engine and three electric motors is intended to provide both performance and efficiency, with Lamborghini saying the car can complete critical emergency missions in the shortest possible time.

The Temerario doesn't replace the State Police's existing vehicles or the Urus Performante, the latter of which has been part of the Italian State Police fleet since 2023.

The collaboration began in 2004 when the first Lamborghini Gallardo entered service. That car completed its first organ transport mission in September of the same year.
