The family of a teenager critically injured in a mass shooting in Queensland are keeping vigil at her hospital bed side, as police plea with community members to help bring the masked offenders to justice.

Four people were injured during a shooting at Fitzy’s Hotel in Loganholme about 8.15pm on Saturday.

The shooting took place during a live boxing event where more than 100 people, including families with young children, had gathered to watch.

A car approached a drop off zone, where people had gathered during an intermission, when police said two men wearing balaclavas and gloves opened fire from the front passenger window, striking four people.

“That location had children, teenagers, mums and dads at that sporting event... people should be able to go there and enjoy their time with their families,” chief superintendent Mel Adams said.

“All of those persons will walk away from that incident with some sort of trauma.”

The event was promoted by Logan’s Shadow Boxing Gym and sanctioned by the Australian National Boxing Federation.

Phil Austin from the Australian National Boxing Federation Queensland defended security standards in the wake of the shooting.

Be the first to know:

“I’ve been doing this for over 30 years. This is the first time that anything like this has ever happened at an event,” Mr Austin said.

“There’s not a lot of ties between organised crime and boxing. It’s great in movies. It doesn’t actually work out that way.”

‘This could have been your family’

A 19-year-old woman, from Jimboomba, was taken to Princess Alexandra hospital with gunshot wounds to her neck and head, where she remains in a critical and unstable condition as of Monday afternoon.

Police said she was an innocent bystander.

“The female is a very critically ill person, and her family continue to marshal at the hospital at her bedside and our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Adams said.

“This could have been your family member. This was a random group of people at the front of a popular hotel that became victims.”

Three men, aged 38, 37, and 27 — all received gunshot wounds to their abdomens, with the 38-year-old man also shot in the arm.

All three remain in serious conditions, however, are improving according to Adams.

“We have four persons that have been shot, one of those persons is a 19-year-old female who is a local woman,” Adams said.

“Her family is distraught, the families of the other victims are distraught, the wider community are questioning how can this happen in Logan?’.”

Police have yet to confirm if the three male victims are known to one another.

Police are yet to make any arrests as their investigations enter a third day, with homicide detectives now assisting.

After the gunmen fled the scene a Mitsubishi was later found burnt out by a road about 15 minutes south in Waterford.

CCTV from nearby homes revealed the masked men had been picked up by a second car after setting the Mitsubishi alight.

Police believe one of the men from the Mitsubishi may have been injured or burnt during this process.

A second car, identified by police as a ute, was also found set alight later the same night, with police still investigating if the car was linked to the shooting.

Adams said it was time for the community to “come together and step up”, urging the public to come forward to police with any information they may have.

“There will be people out there who know who did this or suspect who did this,” she said.

Police believe there was a level of pre-planning involved in the attack, however they said it would be “premature to speculate” on the involvement of any gang members or organised crime groups.

Anyone with information or footage from the incident of the shooting or car fires is urged to contact police.
