One of the most powerful yet deliberately overlooked defences of our freedoms is the Coronation Oath, described by Action4Canada Founder Tanya Gaw as “the buried treasure of Canada’s Constitution that desperately needs to be resurrected.”
This is not a dusty historical document. It is a living, breathing, and legally binding agreement in which the Monarch swears before Almighty God to govern according to the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel. Its significance within Canada’s constitutional framework has profound implications for governance and accountability—yet it is never discussed in modern public discourse, and successive governments have chosen to ignore it, enabling the erosion of Canada’s Constitution, its Christian heritage, and the fundamental rights of its people. It is time to bring it back to life and to restore it as the standard by which every decision in the House, Senate and judiciary is measured.
David Lindsay first introduced this critical truth to Action4Canada back in 2020 and has partnered closely with Tanya Gaw and the team ever since. Together they have worked diligently to bring the Coronation Oath out of obscurity and into the public square as a powerful constitutional weapon. With Bill C-9 now before the Senate, this partnership and this knowledge have never been more timely or more urgent.
Before taking the oath, King Charles attempted to alter it into an interfaith declaration, but public backlash forced him to uphold the original text. Yet this has not prevented him from repeatedly violating its solemn terms.
Far from a ceremonial formality, the Coronation Oath is a binding vow made before Almighty God. In a powerful public letter, a senior Bishop has now confronted the King directly, declaring that he is eroding the Christian heritage of the British Commonwealth and failing in his sworn duty. The Bishop reminded His Majesty that the Oath “was not a poetic formality. It was a solemn vow before Almighty God to maintain and preserve the Protestant Reformed religion established by law. Those words bind the conscience of the Sovereign.” (View recording 4:15)
This powerfully validates what Action4Canada and David Lindsay have championed for years: the Coronation Oath is not symbolic—it is a living constitutional obligation that demands accountability.
