Police cannot rule out two dogs which mauled a runner also being involved in the death of a man whose body was found in nearby bushland.
The man’s body was discovered in bushland near Kittyhawk Dr in Chermside, Brisbane, about midday on Sunday, while police were assisting Brisbane City Council investigators following Friday night’s dog attack, which left prominent local real estate agent Ajay Malik fighting for his life.

The 48-year-old man’s body was found by officers while they were assisting Brisbane City Council investigators in the area following the dog attack.
Queensland Police Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said a postmortem had been completed on the 48-year-old, but further forensic testing was needed to determine how he died.

“At this stage, we can’t rule out the involvement of dogs or the dogs from Friday night,” Massingham said.
“But we simply don’t know at this stage if they have attributed to his death or contributed to his death or have had some involvement with him postmortem.”

Police shoot dogs to stop further attacks
Police were called to the bikeway cuttings through 7th Brigade Park on Kittyhawk Dr near the Westfield Shopping Centre Chermside about 6.15pm on Friday, following reports of the dog attack.
Malik was found in a critical condition with injuries to his face and both of his arms and was rushed to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
His wife told 7NEWS they were shocked and traumatised by the attack, and Malik faces a long road to recovery.
Massingham confirmed on Monday Malik was “currently in a stable condition”.
“The runner had no connection or any prior interaction with the dogs’ owner,” he said.
Responding officers faced an immediate safety risk because of the animals’ aggressive behaviour.
“After initial attempts to subdue the animals were unsuccessful, officers were required to discharge their service firearms in response to the risk posed to members of the community and others at the scene,” Massingham said.

“Both dogs received a single gunshot wound and fled the scene before being captured later that night and the following morning,” Massingham said.
“Both dogs are currently alive with the Brisbane City Council, who is currently leading ongoing investigations into that attack.”
Police investigations had established the dogs were loose before 6pm on Friday.
Massingham said he had viewed body-worn camera footage from the first responding officers.
“This attack was horrific on that man. Our officers provided immediate first aid. Those dogs were still in the vicinity trying to access him.”
“Seeing that vision today, I have no doubt that was the only option of those officers to safeguard what could’ve been another attack.”

Massingham said the deceased man was often a rough sleeper in the area and was known to frequent the bush around Kittyhawk Dr, where makeshift camps had been established.
“There’s a small number. I wouldn’t say it’s a large number,” he said of other rough sleepers in the area.
He described the camp where the dogs had been kept as “fairly extensive in terms of its size and the way it’s been set up”.
The man’s body was found in an open area exposed to the elements. However, the terrain was lower than the surrounding bushland, meaning he would not necessarily have been visible to someone looking across the area, Massingham said.
Police have not established whether the man was alone when he died, with investigators still working to determine the circumstances of his death.
The homicide investigation unit has been deployed to assist, and an investigation centre is operating at the Carseldine Criminal Investigation Branch.

Police are urging anyone who heard or saw anything unusual in the parkland near Kittyhawk Dr between 4pm and 6pm on Friday to come forward.
Massingham said witnesses should report what they actually saw or heard, rather than speculate about what might have happened.
Anyone with information or vision that could assist the investigation is urged to contact police.
