There’s a brand new little weatherman in the Sunrise family, with Sam Mac and fiancee Rebecca James welcoming their first son.

The couple announced the arrival of Miles Samuel McMillan during a live cross from hospital on Friday morning, introducing their newest family member to Sunrise viewers.

Born at 2.19pm on Thursday, Miles weighed 3.8kg and measured 50cm.

He is the couple’s third child and first boy, joining proud big sisters Margot and Mabel, who were watching from home for a glimpse of their new baby brother.

After a week away from presenting the weather, Mac thanked viewers for their well wishes before joking he had had a “tough night” in hospital.

Lying comfortably in James’ hospital bed, the presenter claimed the fold-out cot he’d been sleeping on left a lot to be desired.

“I don’t think you realise how hard it is ... I mean, can you call that a bed? It’s more like a coffin,” he joked.

James was quick to put him back in his place.

“How’s the complaints coming out of this one,” she laughed.

Despite admitting she was feeling a little sore and tired, James said she had enjoyed a “great first night so far” with baby Miles.

While the couple kept the laughs coming, Mac also took a moment to acknowledge everything mothers go through during childbirth.

“Shout out my mum Loretta, to Bec’s Mum Celia,” he said.

The couple also announced the arrival in a post to Instagram, thanking James’ medical team for their support and care.

Sunrise hosts Nat Bar and David Woiwod congratulated the couple on their newest arrival, while Mac and James said they were excited for Margot and Mabel to come and “meet/torment” their baby brother.

The happy news comes just months after the couple revealed they were expecting baby number three during an on-air announcement in March.

“I wanted to share some personal news. I haven’t told anyone except the person who had to have a photo ready for this, but Bec is pregnant. We are expecting baby number three,” Mac told viewers at the time.

Mac and James have been together since 2020 and were engaged in 2023.
