A Sydney councillor has unleashed on illegal dumpers who have turned a residential street in Campsie into a towering rubbish tip, vowing to track down those responsible and force them to pay the clean-up bill.

The putrid pile of waste stretches along a 20m stretch of Bexley Road in front of a unit block, creating what locals describe as a revolting stink.

Canterbury-Bankstown Councillor Harry Stavrinos took to social media to vent his fury.

“Look at this disgusting mess. What pigs in their right mind think that this is normal?” he said.

“What, you expect our workers to come out here and clean up this mess? This s***? This is third world.”

The dump includes mouldy furniture, construction waste, baby toys and busted bed frames.

“You’ve got a mix of household waste, industrial waste, building waste,” Stavrinos said.

The pile first appeared four weeks ago but has grown rapidly as more people have added to it.

“It’s foul. And people just now, because it’s like this, people are like, oh, I can just dump my rubbish here,” one local said.

“I think it’s disgusting. I think someone’s got to be held accountable.”

In NSW, the EPA says cleaning up illegal dumping is costing the community $300 million each year.

Canterbury-Bankstown Council offers bulk waste collection but is urging residents to follow the rules.

“Put your rubbish out the night before. Don’t put it out two or three weeks or four weeks earlier, or even a week earlier, or even a few days earlier, because this is the end result,” Stavrinos said.

Council said the junk won’t simply be hauled away.

It will be investigated, and anyone linked to the illegal dumping could face fines.

“You’re going to be forced to clean it up yourselves and you will be forced to pay for this,” Stavrinos warned, threatening to send the bill to strata.
